Kids Are Kids! Workshops on Understanding and Supporting Children in Rural Western Australia
Posted in Media Release, News -
Thanks to funding from the Department of Communities, Kids Are Kids! delivered community workshops in Broome during April 2026 to strengthen understanding of children’s behaviour and build local capacity to better support families.
Through interactive sessions for parents, caregivers, educators and community members, the program reframed challenging behaviour through a developmental and relationship-based lens, recognising behaviour as communication rather than something to be “fixed.” Grounded in secure attachment and co-regulation principles, participants were equipped with practical strategies to help children feel safe, understood and supported.
Delivered in a welcoming community setting, the workshops encouraged open conversation, reduced stigma and strengthened confidence in responding to children with diverse needs, including neurodiversity and disability. By creating opportunities for shared learning and reflection, the initiative contributed to a more inclusive, compassionate and resilient community for children and families in Broome.
Following the positive community response, Kids Are Kids! hopes to continue delivering these programs across other rural and remote locations throughout Western Australia, helping more communities access practical, relationship-based support for children and families.
