New AAC Boards Installed at Kids Are Kids! Centres

Thanks to the generous support of WA Charity Direct, two new Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) boards have been installed at our centres in Bateman and Armadale, helping create more inclusive spaces for all children.

AAC boards use clear pictures and symbols to support communication, providing children with a simple and accessible way to express their needs, thoughts and feelings. For children who experience communication challenges, these boards can make a meaningful difference, helping them participate more confidently in play, learning and social interactions.

The boards have been thoughtfully designed with input from Kids Are Kids! speech pathologists to ensure they reflect familiar words, activities and elements of the garden environment. This means children can easily use the boards to talk about what they see, do and enjoy while spending time outdoors.

By making communication more accessible, the AAC boards encourage inclusion, foster meaningful connections, and help children engage more confidently with their community.
