Physiotherapy
Kids Are Kids! provides physiotherapy for children aged 0 -18 who experience difficulties with movement, balance, coordination, posture or physical development. Our physiotherapists assess children’s movement and motor skills and work with families to support the development of physical skills needed for play, learning, independence and everyday activities.
When might my child need physiotherapy?
You may wish to speak with a paediatric physiotherapist if you have concerns about your child’s movement or physical development, including:
- Baby development: your baby has a flat spot on their head, consistently turns their head to one side, or you have concerns about their early movement.
- Delayed motor milestones: your child is taking longer than expected to learn skills such as sitting, pulling to stand, standing or walking.
- Walking and foot posture: your child walks on their toes, has an unusual walking pattern or has concerns with foot position.
- Balance and coordination: your child frequently trips or falls, appears clumsy or has difficulty with activities such as running, jumping, hopping or catching a ball.
- Gross motor development: your child has difficulty learning or performing physical skills needed for play, sport and everyday participation.
- Posture and movement: your child has difficulty maintaining sitting or standing posture, favours one side of their body or experiences challenges with motor planning and movement control.
- Pain affecting movement: your child experiences pain during physical activity or unexplained pain that affects their ability to move and participate in everyday activities.
If you are concerned about your child’s development, a physiotherapy assessment can help identify their needs and determine what support may be helpful.
Working with families
At Kids Are Kids!, physiotherapy is family-centred. Parents and carers are important members of the therapy team, and we work with you to set goals based on your child’s needs and your family’s priorities.
Our physiotherapists develop practical strategies to help children practise and build their skills through everyday routines and activities. Where appropriate, we can work with families and other people involved in a child’s life to support progress at home, at school and in the community.
Children may also benefit from support across multiple areas of development. Kids Are Kids! provides other allied health services, including Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Psychology, allowing families to discuss their child’s broader therapy needs with our team.
Physiotherapy locations and access
Kids Are Kids! supports children and families across Perth with physiotherapy through our centres in Bateman, Armadale and Rockingham. Therapy may also be available at home, school, daycare or in the community, depending on the service and the child’s needs.
Families can access physiotherapy privately through our Fee for Service Program. Kids Are Kids! is also registered to provide supports to eligible NDIS participants.
To discuss your child’s movement or physical development, contact our team to find out about current physiotherapy availability.
